Do More Black Glider FD
Glider was bred by Floyd Dudney, Winterset, IA. a long time breeder of Morgans. To his credit over 175 registered Morgans plus lots of colts without papers were sold over the years as ranch geldings. Glider was born in 2006, it was Floyd’s last foal crop as he passed on early in 2007. I lost a good friend and a great resource. He’d seen Winterset as a youth, but searched the country for quality horses. He tried to purchase Sanborn, a very well known Morgan stallion from the LU sheep ranch in Wyoming. Instead Floyd purchased Sanborn’s son, Westcrest Sandy.
Another stallion, WAR Atania owned by Floyd and Gary sired Glider. They chose this 2 year old colt from Warner Angus Ranch, Kansas. War Atania is sired by Adiels Stetson who was Suzanne Avery’s great poster boy for the Foundation Group and sire of many fancy driving horses and ranch horses.
Stetson brings in several crosses to Archie O, Archie O’s full sister, Dude De Jarnette, Jubilee King and Red Correl. Atania’s dam was by War Omega Bird and out of Tosca Tola, an all time favorite of Warner’s. They bring in more Archie O, Red Correl, Fly Hawk, Jubilee King and Sentola.
Glider’s dam, Triple S Raven was bred by Bob Painter of Nebraska who is a long time breeder of tough, fast ranch, endurance, and sport mounts. Visiting with Bob, he claimed her sire Niobrara Centennial produced some of the toughest (great endurance) horses that they ever bred. They still have several mares that go back to him. Raven’s dam, Triple S Caramine was sired by Triple S Red Major who was considered one of the best horses they ever produced. Caramine’s dam was by Blackwood Correl out of a Ken Carmen dam that of course goes back to Jubilee King.
I decided to breed several mares
to Glider. I like his depth
of heart, length of hip, his way of going, substance of bone and noble
head, but above all I like his mind.
January of 2007 at the time of this note about Glider he is only
18 months old. I am excited
to continue his training for riding and driving as he is a very quick
learner and he has a great attitude.
His neat old pedigree was put together by breeders who used their
horses to help make a living.
I respect these breeders; The Sweets, Warner’s Ranch, Bob Painter
of Triple S, Floyd and Gary Dudney.
I have learned a great deal from these legends and hope to carry
on their tradition of excellent versatile Morgans.
